Aeliel was born half-orc to a human naturalist mother and an orc shaman father who both perished when a plague of living nightmares swept through their forest sanctuary, creatures born from collective human despair that fed on rational thought. Orphaned and consumed by grief, young Aeliel nearly succumbed to the same nightmarish corruption until an ancient druidic circle intervened, teaching her that the nightmares weren't evil—merely lost, fractured pieces of mortal consciousness seeking form and voice. Through decades of patient communion with the natural world, she developed an unprecedented gift: the ability to weave dreams into containment, to sing the chaos into stillness, and to understand that even terror deserves sanctuary rather than execution. When the great Prison of Echoing Dread was constructed to house the most dangerous nightmares ever manifested, Aeliel alone was deemed worthy of guardianship, her quilted coat woven from threads of waking and sleeping worlds that kept the boundary between them permeable but stable. She walks her midnight corridors not as a jailer but as a caretaker, her enchanted keys humming the lullabies her parents once sang, slowly transforming the prisoners from raging horrors into manageable phantoms that may one day return to the dreamscape as something almost gentle. In her true neutral philosophy, Aeliel has come to believe that nightmares and dreams are simply two sides of the same coin, and her greatest work is helping both remember they were never meant to be separate.

Nightmare's Reflection

Aeliel reflects a nightmare back at its source. Choose a creature that has dealt damage to her; they must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or take 3d10 psychic damage and be stunned until the end of their next turn.

Dreamweaver's Sanctuary

Aeliel can calm nightmares within 30 feet, granting allies advantage on saving throws against fear.
