Character
Alice Brightcrest
Alice Brightcrest was abducted at a young age and to cope envisioned her trauma as wonderlands from her favorite childhood book, Alice in Wonderland. The experience was an event that fractured her mind into jagged, fragmented pieces of her psyche. Unable to reconcile the cruelty of reality with the whimsical worlds she'd imagine in dissociation, Alice began constructing an elaborate internal realm where trauma transforms into tea parties, where grief becomes curious riddles, and where the sharp edges of loss are softened by perpetual storybook logic. She adopted the aesthetic of her beloved narratives as a protective shell, her carefully curated appearance becoming both armor, sel-illusion, and invitation, drawing others into the beautiful illusion she maintains with desperate precision. The white kitten she carries—named Dormouse after her favorite character—serves as her anchor to the constructed fantasy, a living reminder that some things remain soft and innocent even when the world proves otherwise. Her dissociation has become so sophisticated that she sometimes forgets which version of events actually occurred and which she's rewritten into something more bearable, speaking in riddles and non-sequiturs that only make sense within her internal logic. Anyone attempting to get close is usually pushed away or forced to corroborate her fantastical delusions which to her have become subconscious learned reactions to navigate her fractured consciousness. Her wonderland isn't any longer escape but a necessary reconstruction of a self that couldn't survive the truth intact. Alice exists in the liminal space between the illustrated page and breathing reality, beautiful and haunted, forever searching for the sister she's convinced is merely hiding in one of her many invented worlds.
