Biography
The Chernobrogls were once the proud engineer-caste of the Brass Collective, a sprawling industrial empire built upon clockwork marvels and steam-powered ambition, until the day their greatest achievement became their undoing. In their hubris, the Collective constructed the Reactor Eternal—a massive copper-and-iron heart meant to power their entire civilization for a thousand years—but a catastrophic chain of failures caused it to detonate in a cataclysmic explosion of irradiated vapor and alchemical runoff that consumed the entire district. Those who survived the initial blast found themselves grotesquely transformed by the lingering radiation and strange metallic compounds that seeped into their very flesh, their bodies warping into bizarre chimeras of flesh, rust, and exposed gears that somehow continued to function. The Chernobrogls discovered that their mutations, though horrifying, granted them an eerie symbiosis with machinery; they could sense the inner workings of any device and repair mechanisms through touch alone, as if their corrupted forms resonated with the technology that had unmade them. Exiled from the Collective as living reminders of technological hubris, they retreated into the toxic wastelands surrounding the blast zone, building a shadowy civilization within the skeletal remains of factories and refineries. Now they exist as tragic paradoxes—brilliant salvagers and inventors cursed to live in the poisoned ruins of progress, forever marked by the steam and ambition that had once defined their identity.
