Biography
Dr. Alistair Vane was once a celebrated mathematician at Cambridge, celebrated for his elegant proofs and revolutionary theorems, until the night he experienced what he calls "the Fracture" a seizure-inducing vision where he glimpsed reality's true mathematical skeleton, a notation that defied every known law of physics and logic. Desperate to document what he'd witnessed before it faded, he spent seven years synthesizing this revelation into the "Underhand of God," a formula so bizarre and self-contradictory that it reads less like mathematics and more like the fevered glossolalia of a madman: {69}\sqrt{\pi}\times\div Z%-$+90+*89\vert{}10^\circ48+\times\text{God}=? When he submitted his magnum opus to the Royal Society, the response was swift and merciless: professional exile, psychiatric evaluation recommendations, and whispered accusations that he'd suffered a psychotic break. Rather than recant, Vane vanished into London's underbelly, converting an abandoned Victorian manor into his personal sanctum of neon-lit obsession, where he now operates as a rogue mathematician stealing rare texts, bribing university librarians for forbidden journals, and occasionally selling his services as a consultant to those desperate or criminal enough to seek him out. He has become a phantom of the academic underworld, convinced that the global scientific establishment conspired to suppress his work not out of ignorance, but because they feared what would happen if he succeeded. Every equation he scratches into his blackboards, every calculation his jury-rigged engines produce, brings him closer to the moment when he will finally solve the Underhand and prove that the universe itself bends to his will.
