Elyndra, the Worldroot Warden.

Mira Valenne had never wanted to become anything important. She was born in a small mountain village called Bellhaven, a place too insignificant to appear on most maps. Its people survived through farming, quarrying, hunting, and trade with the towns beyond the mountains. They had no great knights, no royal blood, and no powerful mages. What they did have was each other, and Mira was the kind of person who seemed to understand that better than anyone. She helped the elderly repair their homes, carried food to families during harsh winters, and spent her days working wherever she was needed. She was not particularly gifted, but she was dependable, and in Bellhaven that mattered more than talent. Everything changed when something fell from the heavens. The villagers initially believed it was a star, but what they discovered in the valley was a dying man surrounded by shattered stone. His name was Cael Ardyn, a demigod born from an ancient earth spirit and a mortal woman. For centuries he had wandered the world, protecting settlements that eventually forgot his name, until he encountered a creature called Vharok, a half-demonic being that had once been a mortal sorcerer. Vharok had attempted to consume the heart of an ancient demon and instead became its vessel. His body became a monstrous fusion of flesh, blackened bone, and volcanic stone, while his hunger became something far worse than ordinary evil. He could consume the vitality of the land itself, leaving forests barren and soil incapable of supporting life. He had discovered that something beneath Bellhaven was unusually rich in ancient elemental energy, and he intended to consume it until nothing remained. Cael fought him alone. The battle became a legend before it was even finished. Cael tore boulders from the mountains and hurled them with enough force to shatter Vharok’s armor, while Vharok answered with waves of black fire that melted cliffs and turned entire sections of forest into glass. They fought across the valley, through the mountains, and beneath the earth itself. Cael broke Vharok’s ribs, Vharok pierced Cael’s body, and neither surrendered. When Vharok finally reached the village, Cael gathered what remained of his strength and dragged the demon beneath the mountain. The resulting impact split the valley. By dawn, Vharok had been buried beneath tons of rock, and Cael emerged from the ruins barely alive. His body was already beginning to crystallize from the inside, the consequence of forcing nearly all of his divine inheritance beyond its limits. He knew he would die soon, and worse, he knew Vharok would eventually return. That was when Cael made Mira an offer. He could give her a fragment of what remained of his power. Not enough to make her a god, and certainly not enough to make her invincible, but enough to become the guardian Bellhaven needed. She would be able to manipulate soil, stone, clay, gravel, minerals, and the natural structures beneath the ground. She could raise walls, reshape terrain, reinforce her body, sense movement through vibrations, create weapons from surrounding materials, and unleash devastating attacks by manipulating the earth itself. But power of that magnitude could not exist without a price. The gift would slow her aging to a fraction of a normal human’s. She would live for centuries while everyone she loved continued to age normally. Worse, whenever she chose to extend her life beyond what her mortal body naturally allowed, the power would consume a fragment of her memory as payment. Cael told her exactly what that meant. One day she might forget her childhood. Then her parents. Then her friends. Eventually, she might remember that she had loved people without remembering their faces. Mira accepted. Not because she feared death, but because she knew what would happen to Bellhaven if she refused. Cael placed his hand against her chest, and the mountain answered. The ground beneath Mira split open as veins of crystal and stone er
