Biography

Born during a plague that should have killed him, the Game Master discovered his gift for sorcery not through study but through pure, anarchic will—he simply refused to die, and reality bent to accommodate his defiance. He wandered the Borderlands as a vagrant conjurer until he realized the land itself responded to games, to chance, to the delicious unpredictability of wagered stakes, and so he became its architect of chaos, crafting ever-more elaborate card games and contests that drew the desperate, the ambitious, and the doomed. His magic flows from a source he's never quite understood, neither light nor shadow but something older—the fundamental force that makes death negotiable rather than absolute. The Game Master knows with absolute certainty that his time will end, yet this knowledge brings him only amusement, for he has already seen the faces of those who will inherit his role, seen the threads of fate that will draw them to the Borderlands whether they seek it or not. He plays his games not to win but to observe, to shuffle the deck one more time, to prove that even mortality is just another hand to be dealt. In his chaotic heart, he understands a secret that terrifies lesser minds: death is merely the game master's greatest opponent, and like all worthy adversaries, it deserves respect, worthy players, and the promise of an eternal rematch.
