Kage, The Ronin Cat

Kage was not always masterless. Three centuries ago, he served a great daimyo whose domain stretched across misty mountains and cherry-blossom valleys, and in those days his fur burned brighter orange than sunset fire. During a treacherous night of betrayal, poison was meant for his lord's cup, but Kage drank it first—and discovered that death itself could not claim him, that his body would heal from any wound, that blades could not pierce what fate had deemed eternal. Horrified by this curse disguised as immortality, he watched his beloved daimyo age and perish while he remained unchanged, and when centuries of service could not purchase even the mercy of an honorable death, he abandoned his post and became ronin, wandering the provinces in crimson-lacquered armor and a demon mask that hid his ageless, amber eyes. Now he drifts like a shadow through an endless procession of generations, seeking redemption through perfect adherence to bushido's code, though he knows that honor alone cannot absolve him of the sin of existing when all he has ever loved has turned to dust. His miniature blades have tasted the steel of ten thousand opponents, yet none have ever truly defeated him—a truth that weighs heavier upon his whiskers than any physical burden ever could. Some say Kage is searching still for the one worthy opponent who might finally grant him the death he has earned a thousand times over, while others whisper that his curse is not immortality at all, but the eternal punishment of a cat condemned to wander, forever chasing the falling cherry blossoms of a past he cannot change.
