Katt Mauer

Katt Mauer grew up in the floating sky-cities of the Shattered Isles, where her parents—both legendary dragon riders who perished in a catastrophic storm during her childhood—were celebrated as heroes who lived without restraint. Raised by her grandmother in the aftermath, Katt learned that life was precious precisely because it was fragile, adopting a philosophy that every moment should be seized with reckless abandon to honor those lost to the skies. When she arrived at the Academy at eighteen, her natural aptitude for dragoncraft and her fearless approach to impossible aerial maneuvers made her an immediate standout, though her instructors were equally alarmed by her complete disregard for safety protocols and her tendency to fill her dormitory with admirers most nights. Rather than viewing the rigid structure of cadet life as a path to discipline, Katt saw it as merely the framework within which she could push boundaries—pulling dangerous barrel rolls at breakneck speeds, charming her way through academy politics, and treating romantic entanglements as casually as changing the wind currents. Her peers were simultaneously drawn to and unsettled by her infectious confidence, never quite certain whether she possessed genuine courage or simply hadn't yet learned to fear the consequences of her choices. What few realized was that beneath her carefree exterior lay a girl still running from grief, using speed and sensation to outpace the weight of her family's legacy and the emptiness they left behind.
