Rather than summoning the guard, the king saw in Kevan's cunning intellect and moral flexibility a tool more valuable than any sword, and offered him a choice: the noose or a place within the royal court. קעואן Kevan accepted, trading his tattered cloaks for garments of black and silver embroidered with sacred Hebrew letters that bound him to an oath of service, each character a reminder of his covenant to use his skills in the crown's shadow. Now he moves through the palace corridors like a phantom, handling the matters that require discretion as he helps keep kingdoms stable. His Venetian mask, worn during covert operations, has become as much a part of his legend as his rapier is sharp, and the king's trust in him has become the only law Kevan truly obeys.
