Biography
Mammon was not always an Archdemon, but rather a mortal merchant prince who ruled over a vast trading empire spanning countless kingdoms. His hunger for wealth began as ambition—a desire to build something greater than himself—but over decades, it festered into an all-consuming obsession that hollowed him from within. He discovered ancient texts detailing rituals of binding and transformation, promising eternal life and inexhaustible riches to those willing to sacrifice their humanity. Through dark pacts and forbidden ceremonies, he bartered away his soul piece by piece, trading compassion for profit margins, love for ledgers, and his very flesh for gold-threaded skin. His ascension to demonhood was not a punishment but a coronation, as he willingly descended into the seventh hell's depths to claim dominion over the layer of Greed itself. The transformation left him twisted and eternal—a being whose form now mirrors his inner corruption, draped in the very treasures he devoted his existence to accumulating. In his current reign, Mammon has become the architect of financial ruin and moral bankruptcy across the mortal realm and beyond. He orchestrates elaborate schemes of debt and desperation, ensnaring mortals and lesser demons alike in contracts that guarantee his ever-expanding hoard while their souls wither away. His paranoia has grown pathological; he hoards not from necessity but from the terror that losing even a single coin would somehow diminish his infinite power and status. Mammon has built towering vaults throughout his layer, each one more fortified than the last, yet none can satisfy the gnawing emptiness at his core. He surrounds himself with corrupted servants and bound spirits, all of whom he views as potential thieves despite their absolute loyalty. The cruel irony of his existence is that the wealth he murdered his own humanity to obtain has become his prison—a golden cage from which he cannot escape, eternally starving despite swimming in riches.
