Ragetti

Ragetti wasn't always a man of the sea—he was born the unwanted son of a blind cartographer and a tavern wench in a forgotten port town, left to fend for himself on the streets after his mother's death. A childhood accident involving a fisherman's hook cost him his left eye, and the wooden replacement he carved himself became as much a curse as a blessing, forever tilting at odd angles as if searching for answers he'd never find. Desperate and starving, he stumbled onto Captain Barbossa's crew more by accident than ambition, seeking only a warm meal and a place to sleep, but the dark magic that bound the Black Pearl to its captain soon bound him as well. The curse stripped away his humanity piece by piece, leaving behind a shambling husk that barely remembered his own mother's face, yet somehow Ragetti's simple mind proved an advantage in surviving the supernatural horrors that drove other men mad. He clings to Barbossa with the devotion of a dog, believing that if he proves loyal enough, obedient enough, perhaps the captain will find a way to break the curse and restore what the sea has taken from him. His dumb luck has become legendary among the crew—a supernatural force that seems to pull him through impossible situations, as if some cosmic joke is being played out through his blundering survival, though he remains too dim to recognize the pattern.
