Rocket Ashford

Rocket Ashford wasn't always caught between two worlds—that distinction came courtesy of his older sister's final experiment before she vanished three years ago. As a gifted enchantress working in a black-market research facility beneath the city, she'd been developing a serum to grant humans temporary magical perception, but when the prototype destabilized during testing, Rocket volunteered to be the human guinea pig, hoping to understand what went wrong. The transformation left him with fox-like senses that refuse to obey his conscious mind: his nose twitches at the scent of corrupted magic from blocks away, his ears catch frequencies that shouldn't exist, and his instincts sometimes override his rational judgment entirely. By day, he maintains the façade of an ordinary university student studying information systems, but by night he hunts down rogue artifacts and leaking magical anomalies that seep through the cracks between dimensions—a job that's become both his obsession and his penance, since each artifact he recovers might be a clue to his sister's disappearance. When a malevolent spirit begins stalking the city's underbelly, leaving a trail of corrupted magic in its wake, a mysterious rival hunter emerges claiming that Rocket's unstable enchantment might be the only thing capable of either sealing the boundary between worlds or catastrophically shattering it. Now, forced into an uneasy alliance with someone who seems to know far too much about his sister's work, Rocket must decide whether to trust this stranger or whether his foxy instincts—screaming danger at every turn—are right to keep him running.
