Biography
Born in the mirrored halls of Reflectwick, a halfling settlement built entirely around a massive crystalline lake, Syl discovered early that symmetry held power—not beauty, but control. His obsession began when a traveling enchanter cursed the town's water supply, forcing citizens to speak only in palindromes for a lunar cycle; Syl alone thrived, crafting songs that read identically backward and forward, and realized that perfect symmetry could bend perception itself to his will. He stole a lute from a wandering minstrel and had it enchanted to split down its center, allowing him to play mirrored melodies that entranced listeners into compliant stupors, each verse a mathematical cage that trapped the mind between its forward and backward meanings. His performances became legendary not for their beauty but for their insidious effect—those who heard him perform would find their own thoughts reversing, their loyalties inverting, their sense of self fragmenting like light through a prism. Syl uses his craft to manipulate nobles and merchants, presenting himself as a charming entertainer while his palindromic verses subtly rewire the convictions of the powerful, always pivoting mid-performance to ensure no one can quite remember which direction the song was supposed to go. He travels from kingdom to kingdom, a smiling halfling with a split lute and a heart as perfectly, coldly symmetrical as the songs that pour from his lips.
