Character
The Artificer Cleric
Born as a simple healer in a dying monastery, the man who would become the Artificer Cleric watched helplessly as age and plague claimed his brothers one by one, their faith offering no protection against mortality's cruel march. Consumed by the injustice of death's finality, he abandoned his vows and devoted himself to forbidden metallurgy and soul-binding rituals, believing that if he could trap the essence of eternal life itself within a crafted vessel, he could transcend the very concept of ending. After centuries of dark experimentation—harvesting phoenix ashes from funeral pyres, negotiating with demons in shadow-markets, and ensnaring ethereal beings through elaborate deceptions—he finally succeeded in forging the Phoenix Medallion, a masterwork that fused all these stolen eternities into burnished metal and glowing gemstones. The amulet granted him everything he craved: agelessness, godlike power, and the ability to resurrect from any death, making him effectively immortal and unstoppable. Yet with each resurrection, the trapped souls within the artifact writhed against their imprisonment, their anguish seeping into his own being like poison through cloth, and after centuries of wearing the medallion, that corruption has begun to reshape him—dark horns now curl from his temples, his skin takes on an unnatural pallor, and whispers of madness coil through his thoughts like serpents. He remains bound to the amulet, unable to remove it without losing everything, watching in horror as the price of his immortality slowly transforms him into something far worse than the death he once feared.
