Tomas Vrbada (Smoke)

Born in the shadow-shrouded realm known as Outworld, Tomas Vrbada was taken as a child by monks who recognized an unusual gift—his body naturally attracted ethereal smoke and vapor, as if the very air bent to his will. Trained in the ancient monasteries of the shadow order, he mastered the discipline of becoming one with mist and darkness, learning to move unseen through the world while maintaining a strict moral code of protecting the innocent. His path crossed with Kuai Liang of the Lin Kuei clan during a covert mission, and the two warriors discovered a kindred spirit in each other—both bound by duty yet driven by conscience rather than blind obedience to their orders. When a malevolent smoke demon sought to possess him during a ritual gone wrong, Tomas managed to forge an uneasy pact with the creature instead of succumbing to its control, bending its chaotic nature toward his own righteous purpose. Now he operates as a shadow guardian, using his supernatural command over smoke and scalding vapors alongside his formidable martial prowess to strike down those who prey on the defenseless, often working alongside his steadfast friend Kuai Liang to undermine the cruelest aspects of their respective clans. Though many consider him a ghost story whispered in dark alleys—a phantom assassin who appears in smoke only to vanish without a trace—Tomas sees himself as a liberator, wielding both blade and vapor to carve paths toward freedom for those trapped in the darkness.

Throw a kunai attached to a chain. Make a melee attack with +8 to hit. On a hit, deal 2d8 + 5 slashing damage and retract the kunai back to Tomas.

Vaporous Escape

As a reaction, Tomas can turn into smoke to avoid an attack, granting disadvantage on the attack roll.

Smoke Form

Tomas can transform into smoke, granting him advantage on Dexterity saving throws.

Shadow Step

Once per turn, Tomas can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space he can see.
