Biography
Once a prosperous civilization that commanded entire star systems through mastery of dimensional mathematics, the Ulaquains suffered a catastrophic collapse when their home world's core fractured, forcing their species into permanent nomadic exile across the cosmos. Stripped of their former glory and resources, they devolved into a parasitic existence, drifting from world to world in their deteriorating vessels, subsisting on refuse and scraps while their population multiplied beyond sustainable limits. Their strange morphology—with elongated necks supporting disproportionately small heads crowned with multiple sensory organs and mouth-tentacles—adapted perfectly for sifting through the detritus of other civilizations, though this very adaptation left them incapable of meaningful communication with anyone they encountered, their language reduced to an incomprehensible symphony of squeaks and whistles that grated on every sentient ear. Poverty became their permanent condition, forcing them to cobble together wardrobes from discarded garments across a thousand worlds, creating an appearance so chaotic and unkempt that they became synonymous with cosmic destitution. Their eleven-fingered hands, once capable of intricate technological work, now fumbled with makeshift instruments that produced sounds so abrasive that entire planetary governments pooled resources simply to pay them to leave their orbital space. Despite their overwhelming numbers and complete indifference to the suffering they caused through overpopulation and environmental degradation, the Ulaquains remained emotionally neutral to their own condition, neither seeking redemption nor accepting blame, existing instead as a living pestilence that the universe tolerated only out of resigned exhaustion.
