Umbra Nivis, the Shadows of Snow

Known to the locals as Snow Shadows or the Shadows of the Snow. There are many different myths on how the Umbra Nivis got their appearance, some stories suggest a rogue sorcerer tried to mix magic with an extinct cat breed to create the perfect hunter, while other stories suggest they are infernal minions left on the island for dark purposes. All nature researchers have concluded they are either native or have been on the island for so long they have simply adopted the island and lifestyle to fit in the ecosystem. Found only among the snowy mountains and regions of the island, these dark almost black creatures that look like living skeletons with red orbs for eyes, a sharp contrast to the beautiful white environments they inhabit. Giving these creatures in the snowy alpine regions s haunting image, their solidary nature only adds to the legends that they are of unnatural nature. At the end of every winter, the small numbers of these predators meet for what is observed to be a type of mating ritual for a week then after that, they appear to have no other contact with each other. Since no cubs have ever be seen or recorded only raises more questions than answers to the strangeness of these hunters that have eluded further observations for decades. With its skeleton frame and vision that focuses on heat signatures rather than color. These beasts are as mysterious as they are deadly and best appreciated through stories because if you ever see one, it will not be by chance but because you're being hunted.
