Varkos Dreadscale

Varkos was born into the Dreadscale clan, a proud draconic lineage that once commanded respect across three kingdoms through martial prowess and unwavering honor. When he came of age, he swore an oath before the ancient dragon-stones to protect the innocent and punish those who preyed upon the weak. However, his path took a darker turn when a band of corrupt magistrates orchestrated the massacre of his entire clan, framing them for crimes they did not commit. The officials sought to seize the Dreadscale ancestral lands and the precious hoard hidden beneath them, eliminating any witnesses to their treachery. Varkos alone survived by hiding in the mountain caves, where he spent years consumed by rage and the burning need for retribution against those who destroyed everything he held dear. Rather than abandon his oath entirely, Varkos twisted it into something more primal—a vow to seek vengeance not just against the magistrates, but against all those who abuse their power to crush the helpless. He eventually discovered the Scorns, a faction of vigilantes and outcasts who operated in the shadows, pursuing their own brand of justice outside the bounds of law. Varkos found kinship among them, for they too had been wronged by systems designed to protect the privileged few. His divine power grew darker as he channeled his fury into righteous combat, becoming a relentless instrument of punishment for the corrupt and the cruel. Though his methods had grown morally ambiguous and his motivations personal, Varkos believes his mission serves a higher purpose—to topple those who hide behind false authority and remake the world through force of will.

Choose a target within 60 ft. They must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or take 4d10 necrotic damage and be frightened until the end of their next turn.

Shield of Vengeance

As a reaction, Varkos can impose disadvantage on an attack against him and deal 3d10 radiant damage to the attacker.

Cleansing Flame

Varkos unleashes a wave of fire in a 30 ft. cone. Each creature must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 6d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.

Dragon's Roar

Varkos lets out a terrifying roar. All creatures within 30 ft. must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned until the end of their next turn.

Vengeful Aura

Enemies within 10 feet take 5 psychic damage at the start of their turn.

Draconic Resilience

Resistance to fire and poison damage; advantage on saving throws against being poisoned.

Oathbound

Gains advantage on attack rolls against creatures that have harmed him or his allies.

Fearless Pursuer

Cannot be frightened; immune to effects that would cause fear.
