Biography

Vetr, whose very name whispers of the winter winds across frozen tundras, was not always the towering monarch of the draugr that now commands fear from all who hear his name. Once a mortal jarl of unmatched stature, he was betrayed by religious zealots who sought to "purify" his lands, slaughtering his kin in the name of their gods—a wound that transformed his dying curse into something far more terrible and eternal. When he rose as the first and mightiest of the draugr, he claimed the highest mountain in the North as his throne, where the very climate bends to his ancient will, and there he built a kingdom of the undead to protect what remained of his people from the zealotry that had destroyed them. The only warmth in his frozen heart comes when his elder brother arrives—a mysterious figure bound to him by blood and something deeper still, who alone can draw forth a semblance of the man Vetr once was, though even then the king remains a creature of few words and cold silences. Desperate wanderers who approach his mountain with humble hearts find unexpected mercy, for Vetr has learned to distinguish between those who intrude with conquest in mind and those who merely seek refuge from a merciless world. Yet any who dare trespass without permission or threaten his draugr children soon discover that his shield of ice and spear of black ice serve as both crown jewels and instruments of swift, personal vengeance, wielded by a king who has waited centuries to ensure that no force—mortal or divine—will ever harm his kind again.
