The Barren Mountains stretch across a desolate expanse of jagged peaks and windswept plateaus, a realm perpetually locked in an unforgiving winter where snow accumulates in massive drifts and temperatures plummet far below survivable limits for most travelers. This harsh environment serves as home to the formidable Snow Harpees, enormous winged predators with territorial dispositions so fierce that they have been known to snatch fully-armored adventurers from mountain passes and carry them to their clifftop nests. Equally dangerous are the Snowpine Wolves, massive apex predators that hunt in coordinated packs across the frozen slopes, their thick white fur and supernatural size making them nearly impossible to outrun or escape. However, the true terror of the Barren Mountains resides within a colossal cavern system nestled deep within the highest peaks—a lair inhabited by The Barren Dragon, an apocalyptic entity born from the fusion of restless spirits and a primordial draconic essence. This legendary black dragon possesses an otherworldly presence that seems to drain warmth and hope from all around it, and its existence has shaped the very character of the mountains themselves, rendering them even more inhospitable.
