The Trenches represent one of the world's most harrowing landscapes, a vast expanse of fortified earthworks that sprawls across an entire continent like the scars of some ancient, unhealing wound. Centuries of relentless warfare have transformed the terrain into a nightmarish maze of interconnected ditches and bunkers, their walls reinforced with decaying timber and countless layers of sandbags that slowly succumb to the elements. The ground itself has been pulverized by countless bombardments, creating a chaotic topography of massive craters, jagged ridges, and treacherous ravines that make navigation perilous even for experienced soldiers. Everywhere one looks, coils of rusted barbed wire entangle the landscape in impenetrable barriers, forming twisted metallic thickets that have claimed countless lives over the ages. The bottoms of these trenches collect stagnant water that never fully freezes or drains, creating a suffocating quagmire where the mud seems to possess a malevolent hunger of its own. Above this subterranean labyrinth, the perpetual haze of artillery smoke and ash blocks out nearly all natural light, reducing the sky to a perpetual gloom broken only by the distant, rhythmic flashes of cannon fire. The few remaining trees are nothing but blackened, splintered stumps—grim monuments to the natural world that once thrived here before the endless war consumed everything. The acrid stench of burnt metal and scorched earth permeates every breath, a constant reminder of the industrial carnage that defines this forsaken realm.
