The Continent of Escalion is a vast and diverse land, carved by the forces of nature and the conflicts of the past. Eleven distinct nations lay claim to its borders, each with its own unique culture and history. In the west, the Imperial Commonwealth is known for its zealous religion and belief in human supremacy, while the Grand Kingdom of Reimos to the east stands vigilant, wary of the Imperials' past attempts at conquest. To the south, the Arid Nation of Oris is a center of trade and travel, in contrast to the Frigid Lands of Kalgard, home to a superstitious and nomadic people. Dividing the continent are the Tolgoth Mountains, the domain of the United Dwarven Kingdoms that is constantly fighting the insidious shadowy forces of the the Great Chasm beneath them, a realm of darkness ruled by a sinister council and their god-king. Beyond these mountains lies the First Republic of Gwain, known for its liberal spirit and artistic pursuits. To the east, the Grimnar Confederacy and the Eldiir Khanate are inhabited by giants, orcs, goblins, and other beastfolk, who view the expansionist acts of humans and elves with disdain. North of them and adjacent to Gwain is the Elven Empire of Arria who are still reeling from a succession crisis that has divided their nation into two countries, one of mixed migration and one of isolationism. This is the world of Escalion, a land of contrasts and complexities, where dreams and nightmares coexist in a delicate balance, even gods can be influenced by the acts of men.

Perched high within the Tolgoth Mountains, Berron's Keep stands as a formidable fortress carved directly into the stone peaks, serving as the primary military stronghold of the United Dwarven Kingdoms. Below its towering ramparts lies Durin's Depth, a subterranean township that once flourished as a thriving sanctuary for the Deep Gnome civilization. The fortress and township have become inextricably linked through tragedy and necessity, as the accidental breach of an ancient seal by Durin's Depth's inhabitants unleashed hordes of wraiths and shadow beasts that now plague the depths without mercy. Under the steadfast leadership of the Umberwood Clan's Thanes, Berron's Keep has transformed into a bastion of unity and sacrifice, with nearly a third of its population fighting daily alongside their gnomish allies against the relentless darkness. The keep itself remains a symbol of resilience amid growing tensions between the Mountain Dwarves, who advocate for isolationism and severed surface ties, and the Hill Dwarves, who champion progressive trade and cultural exchange. Only the Stone Regent and the legendary hammer Thunderbringer maintain the fragile bonds holding the dwarven city-states together against complete fragmentation. The people of Berron's Keep view their endless struggle against the shadow beasts not merely as a battle for survival, but as penance for a war they believe was unjustly waged by Imperial forces against the innocent gnomes and halflings of the borderlands. This shared burden has forged an unbreakable brotherhood between dwarf and gnome that transcends the political divisions fracturing their broader civilizations.

These venerable golden rings serve as the ultimate symbol of authority within the Dwarven kingdoms of the Tolgoth Mountains, worn exclusively by the Thanes who rule the great cities and citadels as sovereigns of their respective clans. Forged in the ancient past by the legendary First Stone King Cinder Redbeard, these heirlooms were bestowed upon the most distinguished generals and warriors who proved their valor during the devastating War Against the Commonwealth, establishing the tradition of hereditary rule that endures to this day. Each ring bears an intricate clan sigil—from the fiery visage of Redbeard to the smoking volcanic peak of Blackstone—meticulously engraved into the precious metal as a testament to bloodline and legacy. While lesser copies are worn by other family members throughout the clan, the original ring remains the exclusive possession of the current Thane, marking them as the true head and voice of their people. Imbued with potent runic enchantments of considerable age, these rings possess a bloodline-binding magic that prevents any who do not share such blood be unable to wear the ring. The Clan sigils are described as follows: Redbeard- A Runic Dwarven Face with a fiery beard with a crown above it and under it a hammer and axe crossed Blackstone- A smoking volcano with a black diamond within the mountain Highhill- A hill with the top broken open and the suns rays shining through Greyhelm- An armored Dwarven face plate surrounded by a circle of blades Whitemane- A Runic Dwarven Face with a large bushy white beard and roots in the background Firstforge- A silver forge hammer diagonally displayed Twobeards- A Runic Dwarven Face with two black beards knotted and clasped with rings Brightblaze- An orange flame held within a black lantern Umberwood- A tree growing beneath a hill

The Scargiver is a formidable blade, its shark-like teeth gleaming with an ethereal glow that seems to emanate from the three luminous pearls embedded within the worn, wooden handle. This ancient weapon, forged by the skilled Waveriders, bears the weight of a solemn pact between the Blackford family line and the half-blood tribes of the Southern Isles. Before the chosen heir of the Blackfords could wed their Southern Isles counterpart, they were required to shed their own blood upon the Scargiver, a symbolic act of devotion to the alliance that has endured for generations. The blade's weathered appearance belies its remarkable resilience, a testament to the rugged craftsmanship of its makers and the significance it holds in the traditions of the isles.

The incantation for Ocean's Brink is not chanted, but rather performed through a graceful dance with the water itself. As the caster moves in sync with the currents, they gradually harness the power of the tides, mirroring the influence of the moons. While this ritual takes time to complete, the results are truly awe-inspiring. The caster can summon a towering wall of water, capable of shielding entire cities from harm. Alternatively, the dance can culminate in the unleashing of a devastating tsunami, crashing down upon the caster's foes. This versatile spell allows the caster to both defend and devastate, wielding the might of the oceans as their own.
